Pirates Reporter Reveals Why Bryan Reynolds Won't Be Traded at Deadline
Bryan Reynolds' name has been floated in trade rumors ahead of the July 31 deadline. But the Pittsburgh Pirates would most likely not get back the haul associated with a two-time All-Star who is under team control through 2031. Reynolds is having a poor season, slashing .225/.287/.369 with an 82 OPS+, 10 home runs and a minus-0.8 bWAR. He's also playing mediocre defense in right field with minus-5 defensive runs saved. Would the Pirates move Reynolds even though the return would be low? Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pirates reporter Noah Hiles doesn't see that happening. 'The Pirates aren't really a team that ever looks to trade a piece when they can't get maximum value and I think if they'd be selling Bryan Reynolds, they'd be selling him when his stock is maybe at an all-time low,' Hiles told the 'Foul Territory' podcast. Hiles said he 'wouldn't completely write' Reynolds off despite his regression this season. He pointed to the fact that Reynolds was an All-Star as recently as last year and was still a productive hitter entering 2025. 'I think it might just be a down year. I can see him rebounding. I can see teams thinking that, 'Hey, a change of scenery, getting this guy in a lineup with a little bit more protection, take less pressure off him, maybe you get more value out of him there,'' Hiles explained. Hiles previously reported that Reynolds has a limited no-trade clause for six teams that include the New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays. According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Kansas City Royals are interested in Reynolds to upgrade their outfield. Reynolds signed an eight-year, $106.75 million extension with the Pirates in April 2023. He's making $14.25 million this year and is owed $15.25 million annually from 2026-2030. There's a $20 million club option for 2031 when Reynolds is 36. Steelers listed among top trade destinations to land 49ers WR
Watch out Pittsburgh, the Steelers are once again in the middle of wide receiver trade rumors. After Adam Schefter reported that 49ers WR Jauan Jennings was seeking a new contract or trade, fans and analysts began to predict where San Francisco's underrated wideout could take his talents — including CBS Sports, which recently named the Steelers among the top landing spots. Advertisement Here's what CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin had to say about Pittsburgh's odds of acquiring Jennings amid red-hot trade rumors: "The Steelers haven't been shy about their interest in bolstering Aaron Rodgers' supporting cast, even with DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith already plugged in as new weapons at receiver and tight end, respectively," Benjamin wrote. "And Jennings might cost a lot less than another premium target. Better yet, he brings the kind of rugged physicality and positional versatility that offensive coordinator Arthur Smith would likely prefer. You can bet Rodgers would appreciate the big-game savviness Jennings also brings to the table, having played for several title contenders." Jennings is coming off a breakout year in 2024 — producing 975 receiving yards and six touchdowns, a major reason why he's seeking more money than the $7.5 million he's due this season. After the failed 2024 Brandon Aiyuk pursuit, will the Steelers finally pull the trigger on a 49ers wide receiver — or is Jennings using these trade rumors to force San Francisco's hand in a new contract? Dallas Cowboys' Trade For Mazi Smith Replacement Rumor Teased
Dallas Cowboys' Trade For Mazi Smith Replacement Rumor Teased originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys were one of the NFL's worst run defenses during their disappointing 7-10 season in 2024. Advertisement This problem is no secret. That is why, among much more activity than last offseason, Dallas has addressed the concern by promptly re-signing Osa Odighizuwa, acquiring multiple free agents on the defensive line, and picking two defensive tackles in the NFL Draft. Plus, if this week has told us anything in the George Pickens trade, it is that Jerry Jones' Cowboys have shown they are not afraid to talk around. Dallas has executed four trades this offseason ... so far. Pro Football Focus' Mason Cameron expects that trend of attacking run defense to continue on the trade market. One hypothetic he wrote is Dallas pursuing D.J. Reader, a defensive tackle on the Detroit Lions. Advertisement "Dallas hasn't been afraid to leverage future draft capital this offseason and should consider monitoring another opportunity," Cameron wrote. "The Lions' D.J. Reader has been considered a cut candidate and could fit in nicely with the Cowboys, whether through a trade or a post-release signing. Reader boasts a 91st-percentile PFF run-defense grade over the past three seasons." The Cowboys are expected to roll out former first-round pick Mazi Smith next to Odighizuwa on the inside of the line, with 340-pound rookie Jay Toia fighting for reps. Although Smith has been a letdown in his first two seasons, we don't imagine Reader would be much of an improvement. Reader has seen a major decline in production since suffering knee and quad injuries over the last few years. Now entering his 10th NFL season at the age of 30, it's hard to be confident in his health ... especially at defensive tackle where teams' success hinges on depth and availability at that spot. Advertisement The Cowboys will already be relying on Osa becoming a star, Mazi turning things around, Toia becoming a reliable option, and free agent signing Solomon Thomas showing flashes of youth ... adding another major question mark to this unit is unnecessary ... especially if the Lions are wanting draft picks in a trade. If he is released? That becomes a more believable option if Dallas can use some of their $30 million of cap space to get him at a veteran minimum. Reader, however, is coming off a career year and is giving the Lions a tough decision to make on whether they trade, cut or keep him. Last season he got a career high three sacks to go with 23 total tackles and 4 tackles for loss. Advertisement With Detroit's Alim McNeill still recovering from injury, it's unlikely the Lions will move Reader in the first place. Giannis Antetokounmpo Gets Honest On Los Angeles And New York Trade Rumors
Giannis Antetokounmpo Gets Honest On Los Angeles And New York Trade Rumors originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Giannis Antetokounmpo has finally addressed the swirling trade rumors and as always, he did it in his own unique, low-key way. In a livestream with YouTube and Twitch star IShowSpeed, Giannis was asked about the constant speculation linking him to markets like Los Angeles and New York. Advertisement IShowSpeed: "L.A., the tax is bad. New York tax is bad. Hell nah." Giannis Antetokounmpo: "A lot of people try to convince me, try to convince me to go and play there and stuff." IShowSpeed: "So you stay in Milwaukee?" Giannis Antetokounmpo: "Probably. We'll see. We'll see. Probably. I love Milwaukee." As every move he makes has been dissected this summer, from social media posts to vacation spots, his brief but revealing reply offered the clearest signal yet about where his heart lies. But the reigning face of the Milwaukee Bucks wasn't ready to make promises. Instead, he left the door cracked just enough to keep everyone guessing. Advertisement And that's exactly where the story is right now. ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported last month that there is 'no trade market' for Giannis because he hasn't asked for one and the Bucks are not actively shopping him. But that hasn't stopped teams from dreaming. The Rockets, Lakers, Knicks, Heat, and Warriors have all been loosely connected to the two-time MVP through whispers, backchannels, and wishful thinking. Still, for all the smoke, there's no visible fire. If anything, the Bucks have made moves this offseason to double down on Giannis, not move away from him. They waived Damian Lillard, who is recovering from a torn Achilles, and instead brought in veteran center Myles Turner. They also added useful role players like Gary Harris, Kevin Porter Jr., Taurean Prince, and Jericho Sims. It's not exactly a superteam, but it's a start. Advertisement Giannis, meanwhile, remains in his prime. He averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists last season on a jaw-dropping 60.1% from the field. He's 30 now, with a player option in 2027, meaning he holds all the leverage. And he knows it. So, what does 'probably' mean in the grand scheme of things? It means Giannis is open to staying in Milwaukee, but he needs to be convinced. The Bucks will need to win and win now to ensure his long-term loyalty. Another first-round exit and the calculus could shift quickly. Until then, his words stand as both a comfort and a warning. But 'probably' isn't a promise. It's a possibility, one that the entire league will be watching closely.
